Martin Kargruber Ernst Gaperl arnoldsche weekend art gallery

arnoldsche weekend art gallery #18

The arnoldsche weekend art gallery is coming of age! For our 18th exhibition, GALERIE AK2 will present the extraordinary work of two internationally renowned artists who center their creative practice around wood.

Sculptor Martin Kargruber of South Tyrol carves his pieces from a single piece of wood. In his landscapes and field scenes, he masterfully imparts a sense of light and graceful movement to the rigid material. His architectural forms—houses, stables, transmission towers, and power plants—stand in their closed-off nature as metaphors for a world that does not readily reveal itself to us.

Ernst Gamperl has revolutionized the centuries-old technique of woodturning. With a skill bordering on magic, he creates fascinating vessels and sculptures from wood. Fascinating plays of light repeatedly emerge on the finely grained, rhythmically structured surfaces.

The work of both artists has been presented in major museums and galleries worldwide. In Japan, the renowned fashion designer Issey Miyake showcased Ernst Gamperl’s work in exhibition spaces designed by Tadao Ando.

This time, however, the exhibition will not take place at the offices of arnoldsche Art Publishers but rather at Galerie AK2 at Lorenzstaffel 8 in Stuttgart.

We cordially invite you to the exhibition opening on Friday, November 7, starting at 6.30 p.m. The exhibition will also be open on November 8 and 9 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Publications on both artists, released this year by arnoldsche, will be presented during the exhibition. ERNST GAMPERL: Urkraft and MARTIN KARGRUBER: from the inside out…

The artists will be in attendance.
We look forward to seeing you!

Book launch party for Berlin Deko

Tuesday October 14th
7:00 – 10:00 p.m.
Nine Orchard Hotel
The East Room
9 Orchard St, New York, NY 10002

“Berlin Deko” is the first comprehensive English survey of early twentieth-century German and Central European furniture design to move beyond the notion of a linear development of styles between Jugendstil and Bauhaus. It explores the period between 1910 and 1930, revealing a diverse continuum of styles, including the overlooked “Expressionist Rococo” that flourished in Berlin. The book highlights Berlin’s role as a center for furniture and interior design that attracted international artists.

We are delighted to announce the first official book launch party with the author Markus Winter and the photographer Don Freeman!

The publication is available on our website and at the book launch.
