Stiftung Kunstsammlung Albert und Melanie Rüegg, Zurich (CH), 14.11.2019–8.2.2020
Vernissage: Wednesday, 13.11.2019, 6 p.m.
Lukas Salzmann in conversation with Rudolf Velhagen and Simon Maurer: 15.1.2020, 7:30 p.m.

Lukas Salzmann’s paintings are not only based on photographs, rather they are the triggers of his artistic work. He expands by a painterly dimension what someone considered so valuable that he or she captured it photographically. Salzmann explores perception and challenges it with his art. He plays virtuously with the conditions of the possibilities of image interpretations. A serious game – because this interpretation (also a double one, that of the painter and that of the viewer) opens up fields of tension between a vivid idyll and unavoidable catastrophe. And it is precisely these ambivalences, ambiguities, insecurities that Lukas Salzmann’s painting is geared to. He clarifies the uncertainties that should actually make us safer: Ultimately, however, we are only safe in insecurity.
