Mourning for Dr. Fritz Falk

We mourn for our author and friend Dr. Fritz Falk, the former director of the Schmuckmuseum Pforzheim.

Fritz Falk began his career in 1969 as a research assistant at the Schmuckmuseum Pforzheim and became its director in 1971. Antiquity, Renaissance and Art Nouveau were the major fields of his passionate collecting activities, while contemporary jewellery was always a special concern of his. He curated numerous internationally renowned exhibitions on historical and contemporary jewellery and on the jewellery of the cultures of the world. The Ornamenta I in 1989, as a complete show of the international jewellery creation of that time, was one of the highlights of his endeavours. In 2004 the “Falk era” at the Schmuckmuseum Pforzheim came to an end after 35 years. Nevertheless, he remained dedicated to jewellery, continuing to curate important exhibitions and, together with our publishing house, issuing groundbreaking publications, such as Jugendstil-Schmuck aus Pforzheim in 2008, Serpentina – Die Schlange im Schmuck der Welt in 2011 or Himmlisch – Sonne, Mond und Sterne im Schmuck in 2016. Fritz Falk was an honorary member of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths London and consultant to the Russian Museum of Ethnography in St. Petersburg. He was a jury member at numerous international competitions of modern jewellery art as well as at art and antiques fairs in Amsterdam, Basel, Frankfurt, Hanover, Hamburg and Munich. Fritz Falk died in the night of April 23, after a short serious illness.

The picture was taken at the book presentation Serpentina in November 2011, Schmuckmuseum Pforzheim.
