Asian and African Art

The cultures of Asia and Africa take centre stage in our non-European publishing activities. Our Asia-inspired books range from those on religious artefacts from the Buddhist domain (Tsha-Tsha, Devotion) via books on historical ceramics (Frühechinesische Keramik, Ming) to Japanese everyday culture (Oishii, Netsuke) and fashion (Inrō, Kimono – Meisen). A further focus in this area includes the Western approach to Asian cultures (Japan in Early Photographs, Encountering – Retracing – Mapping) as well as the cultural interaction between East and West (Meiji Ceramics).

Under these unusual circumstances, with exhibitions, galleries and our favourite book shops closed – and whilst we are all recommended to maintain social distancing – we think our beautiful art publications could be the perfect way to get through this uncertain period.
