Description

The Swiss artist David Bielander (b. 1968) is one of the most significant proponents of contemporary art jewellery in the world. With him, nothing is what it seems: corrugated cardboard is actually silver or gold, Wiener sausages are a chair in a coffee house, shapely lips are made of rubber. This ambiguity distinguishes Bielander’s work as much as his exceptional knowledge of materials and artisanal skill. With twenty years of work, the publication offers the first, comprehensive review of the multi-award-winning artist, who with his conceptual reflection and power of imagination creates works full of wit and sensuality.

With contributions by Helen Britton, Rutger Emmelkamp, Maria Cristina Bergesio, Julia Wild, Gijs Bakker, Marjan Unger, Bernhard Schobinger, Benno Hungerbühler, Florian Hufnagl, Jochen Bitzer, Toni Greenbaum, Raphael Bielander, Tim Krohn, Jorunn Veiteberg and Karl Fritsch.

David Bielander is represented in numerous museums worldwide, including Die Neue Sammlung – The Design Museum, on permanent loan of the Danner Foundation, Munich (DE), Schmuckmuseum Pforzheim (DE), Bundesamt für Kultur Schweiz at mudac, Lausanne (CH), CODA Museum, Apeldoorn (NL), National Gallery of Australia, Canberra (AU), Musée des Arts décoratifs, Paris (FR), FNAC, Paris (FR), Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art (UK), Hiko Mizuno College of Jewelry, Tokyo (JP), Dallas Museum of Art (US), Los Angeles County Museum of Art (US), The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (US).
