Caroline Broadhead (b. 1950) is a highly versatile artist who began designing jewellery in the late 1970s. Since then she has extended her practice from ‘wearable objects’ and textile works to dance collaborations and installations in historic buildings. This book presents a comprehensive overview of her work. Confronting the boundaries of the individual, the interface of inside and outside, public and private, territory and personal space, presence and absence, and substance and image, Broadhead explores the outer extents of the body as seen through light, shadows, reflections and movement.

Caroline Broadhead is currently Course Leader BA Jewellery Design and Programme Director for Jewellery & Textiles at Central Saint Martins, UAL. Her works are owned by leading museums worldwide, including the Museum of Art and Design, New York, Dallas Museum of Art and The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (US); Nordenfjelske Kunstindustrimuseum, Trondheim (NO); Imperial War Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum, Crafts Council and Goldsmiths’ Hall in London, Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art (UK); Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, CODA Museum, Apeldoorn (NL); Powerhouse Museum, Sydney (AU); Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto (JP).
