Schloss Friedenstein Gotha, Stiftung

With Friedenstein Castle and its collections, Gotha has preserved a unique ensemble with its historic representative rooms from the Baroque and Classicist periods, the Ekhof Theatre and the rich and varied collections of art history, history and natural history, which are presented in three museums in the castle (Castle Museum, Historical Museum, Museum of Nature) and in the Ducal Museum. Here, Baroque and Enlightenment thought and action can be impressively understood. The historic castle rooms and collections are looked after by the Friedenstein Gotha Castle Foundation.

The Baroque Universum Gotha, a unique early Baroque ensemble, also includes the spacious parks (Stiftung Thüringer Schlösser und Gärten, Thuringian Castles and Gardens Foundation), the extensive research library (Universitäts- und Forschungsbibliothek Erfurt/Gotha, University and Research Library Erfurt/Gotha) and the Thuringian State Archives Gotha.

In addition to collecting, preserving, presenting and communicating, the core tasks of the museums are, of course, also research. This applies both to research on the museum’s own collection and on the context. The Stiftung Schloss Friedenstein Gotha works here nationally and internationally with various research institutions and is thus in a constant exchange. Various research projects connect the Stiftung Schloss Friedenstein Gotha with a worldwide network of research institutions, partner institutions and experts.
