Opening: 28.09.2019, 5 p.m.
From September 28, 2019, the Kunstmuseum Waldviertel in Schrems (AT) will present the exhibition Earth and Light with works by Fritz Maierhofer and Margit Hart.
Over the past 25 years, Austrian artist Margit Hart has created an extremely diverse oeuvre in contemporary jewellery. Mindscapes, the name of one of the youngest groups of works, is synonymous with her constantly changing jewellery objects. Since 2009, Margit Hart’s work has expanded into the field of abstract photography in parallel to jewellery, with both fields in dialogue with each other. Schattenflug is thus not only a title but also an idea for those works that go beyond the depiction of the purely representational and create imaginary three-dimensional pictorial spaces. We dive into and out of promising worlds of light and shadow.
Fritz Maierhofer is one of the most important contemporary jewellery artists from Austria. He began his international career in the late 1960s in London. In the early 1970s, under the influence of this vibrant metropolis, he arrived at his own concept of jewellery, equating his works with painting, sculpture and architecture. It was no longer the purely material value of the materials used that was decisive, but the artistic intention.
On the occasion of the exhibition’s opening, Margit Hart’s first monograph will appear in our programme. The comprehensive publication on Fritz Maierhofer’s work is already available and can be ordered from us.
